My Body, My Choice | Monday, April 29, 2019 7:00 PM-8:30 PM

We are partnering for some education classes with Learning Exchange which represents the school districts of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Richfield Community. They are offering customized classes for adults with learning disabilities.  Included in this partnership is MICC (formerly Minnesota Life College). The presenter for the first class will be Nina Jonson who is familiar to many as a dynamic health educator.  She formerly worked at a west metro health counseling clinic and also MICC. This is a very important topic due to our vulnerabilities. We have heard much about sexual abuse in the news recently.
 Course description:
Feeling safe is important.  At some point, most of us have been confused by someone touching us, whether it was a stranger in a crowd or a relative who hugged us too long, or other examples. Let’s discuss how to claim our power to feel safe with our bodies.
This is a two-night class.  The first night we will discuss the physical boundaries of your body, how to respect your and other people’s boundaries, and what to do if someone touches you in a way that you don’t want them to. Bring your questions. Information handout provided.  Led by Nina Jonson, Relationship and Social Skills Consultant.  The second night, let’s review and do role-playing, led by actors from Combustible Company.  You can watch role plays and participate as you choose. Come enjoy interacting to review and practice skills in a safe environment.
Dates/Time: Monday, April 15 AND April 29, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Location:  Jefferson High School; Media Center; 4001 W. 102nd Street; Bloomington
Cost: $15 for two-class session, Checks payable to Bridging Hearts
We are trying a new registration to streamline the process for BH. You can now register through our website on the event page. Registration will close on April 1.  You can pay the fee to Bridging Hearts the night of the class.  We will cover the registration expense up through the deadline.  However, if you register and don’t attend, you will still need to pay for the class as it will be paid in advance.
Register by: April 1; minimum 6, maximum 25
Lower price thanks to a grant from the Bloomington Crime Prevention Association.

Grief Support Group | Wednesday, February 27, 2019 6:30 PM-8:00 PM

Mark your calendars for our 4th Annual Grief Group. This has been a favorite event of the year as everyone leaves the meeting feeling better than when they arrived.

We have several members dealing with grief and loss whether it is the death of a loved one or parent, a life-threatening illness within the family, or even grieving loss of independence and opportunities due to their own disability.

Our facilitators, Jenny and Katie, both have master's level education and special training in grief work. They work for Fairview Hospital in Grief Support for families and also Camp Erin.

Every year has been a little different from the previous year. You have an opportunity to share your stories if you choose to do so, learn to understand what you are feeling, learn healthy and unhealthy ways to express those feelings, and talk about what might have changed since the death of someone close to you or even after a diagnosis of a serious life-threatening illness in your family.

You can also just come and listen as all of us have or will experience loss and sadness whether it is the loss of a pet, grandparent, other relative or even a parent.

Light refreshments will be served and cost is free.
